Helping make scalp cooling more accessible during cancer treatment.

Scalp Cooling Foundation supports people exploring scalp cooling with financial assistance, practical information, community support, and advocacy for broader access and insurance coverage.

Why we exist

No one should have to navigate scalp cooling alone.

Financial assistance

We review requests from people who need help with eligible scalp-cooling expenses. Assistance depends on available foundation funds and individual review.

Education & support

We help patients and families understand scalp cooling, prepare useful questions for their care team, and find practical resources during treatment.

Insurance advocacy

We support efforts to improve awareness, reimbursement pathways, and equitable access to scalp cooling for people receiving cancer treatment.

What is scalp cooling?

Scalp cooling is used before, during, and after certain chemotherapy infusions to reduce scalp temperature. This can reduce blood flow and metabolic activity around hair follicles and may reduce chemotherapy-induced hair loss for some patients.

Results vary by chemotherapy regimen, individual factors, and the cooling system used. Scalp cooling is not appropriate for everyone, so treatment decisions should be discussed with your oncology team.

Questions to ask your care team

  • Is scalp cooling appropriate with my treatment regimen?
  • Which cooling system is available at my infusion center?
  • What costs should I expect?
  • Does my insurer offer reimbursement?
  • What preparation and aftercare are recommended?
